An interesting paper about Societies of the Mind won a top award at the last NeurIPS conference.
It describes a system where different agents are created inside a neural network. The agents debate with each other, or collaborate in other ways using natural language in order to solve problems. The performance achieved by this new approach turned out to be significantly better than existing models.
This was an implementation of a framework that was originally proposed by Martin Minsky in his book, the Society of Mind, so the video starts by briefly summarizing that framework, and then it shows how the method actually works, using two experiments from the paper to illustrate the process.
The video ends with reflections about the implications for this novel approach for the near future.
